I was asked to design and illustrate the Bookstart logo back in 1999. The idea was to create a mother and child reading together to encourage reading for children at an early stage. After many pencils a mother and child Polar Bear were chosen. The illustration was created on CS2 card using a brush with Windsor and Newton Black Indian ink, how times have changed!
I am very proud to have been asked to do this illustration as it is still going strong after all these years, and was great seeing both my own children walking off to school with their Bookstart satchels. I was also involved with illustrating the original items that came with the pack, story books and a baby placemat.
The Bookstart aim is to give free books to every baby in the UK, to inspire and create a love of reading that will give children a great start in life.
